The Atlassian ecosystem is a vibrant community. HeroCoders is committed to supporting that community, not only through participation in daily discussions, but also by providing useful, free Jira apps. Indeed, our Checklist for Jira | Free app is the second most popular non-Atlassian, Jira app in the Marketplace.

New Checklist Item Limit in Checklist for Jira | Free

We’re proud of that achievement. But in some cases, use of the free app has exceeded our expectations. Some Free clients are high-usage Jira instances, with hundreds of thousands or even millions of checklist items. Use at that scale should be paid. The Checklist for Jira | Free app uses more of our resources than the Pro and Enterprise versions of the app combined. So to be able to better serve our paying customers, beginning October 1, 2024 the free app will be limited to 10k checklist items per Jira instance.

Most customers will not be impacted by this change. However, high usage customers will be asked to move to a payed version of the app. Customers with over 10,000 items can upgrade to Checklist for Jira | Pro or to Checklist for Jira | Enterprise. The upgrade process is quick, and all existing data is immediately available in the upgraded version. Upgrading will also unlock additional checklist features.

Alternatively, customers with over 10,000 items who want to stay on the Free version can delete checklist items to reduce their item count to 10,000 or less.

FAQs

  • How will I know if my instance is nearing the limit?
The total number of checklist items per instance is calculated daily and includes items on closed issues. When an instance is approaching (has 9,000 or more items) the limit of 10,000 checklist items, a warning will be displayed showing the current total count of checklist items.
  • What happens when I reach the limit?
When the 10,000 item limit is reached, it is no longer possible to add additional checklist items (either via the Checklist UI, a checklist template or the Checklist text custom field). All other item operations (checking/unchecking, editing, replacing or deleting) will still be available on existing checklist items.
  • What can I do to avoid reaching the limit?
You can delete existing checklist items or clear the checklist when issues are closed to reduce your item count.
  • Will any of my data be lost when I reach the limit?
No, you will simply be prevented from creating new checklist items.
  • If I upgrade to Checklist for Jira | Pro or Checklist for Jira | Enterprise will I lose my current checklist data?
No, all checklist data is preserved when upgrading.
  • How do I upgrade to Checklist for Jira | Pro?
See the instructions here for upgrading to from Checklist for Jira | Free to Checklist for Jira | Pro.
